'Colbert Report': Watch Paul McCartney's Web-Only Performance (Video)

Stephen Colbert said he was "sporting some serious Norwegian Wood" on Wednesday, and it was easy to see why: He aired a special hourlong edition of "The Colbert Report" dedicated to Sir Paul McCartney.

In "Stephen Colbert's Tribute to Having Paul McCartney on His Show Feat. Paul McCartney With Special Guest Stephen Colbert," Colbert talked to the master songsmith about the early days of The Beatles, and why Wings recorded "Band on the Run" in Nigeria.

"I chose Lagos... for the climate and the disease," McCartney said. After he returned, he said, he received a note from his record company he had missed. It advised him not to go, because of an outbreak of cholera.

Colbert asked him if he performed in "Wings" with his wife, Linda, because it would help thier marriage.

"No, it was just I liked her," McCartney said.

McCartney also performed solo and Beatles hits, including "I've Just Seen a Face," "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite," "Lady Madonna," and "Hi, Hi, Hi."

Five days before his 71st birthday, he also performed a web-only version of "Birthday."

"This is dedicated to anyone who ever has a birthday, during the entire year," he said.
