Casting Roundup: ‘Big Bang Theory’ Casts Leonard’s Other Woman & More

Penny (Kaley Cuoco-Sweeting) will meet the other woman in the life of Leonard (Johnny Galecki) when “The Big Bang Theory” returns. Plus, Fox’s “Urban Cowboy” has been found, and a “True Blood” alum is heading over to Starling City in today’s casting roundup.

Melissa Tang may ruffle some honeymoon feathers on “The Big Bang Theory,” as she’s been cast as Mandy, the woman Leonard kissed on that North Sea expedition, much to Penny’s dismay, TVLine reports. Tang — who is no stranger to Chuck Lorre land with a recurring gig on “Mom,” and also having appeared on one episode of “How I Met Your Mother” — will first appear in episode two of Season 9.

Before Mandy (Tang) comes into the picture, “Big Bang” picks up on Sept. 21 a few hours after where Season 8 left off with Penny and Leonard heading to Sin City to make their relationship official. That is, if Leonard’s canoodling doesn’t mess things up.

Alfonso Herrera has landed the male lead in Fox’s “Urban Cowboy” pilot. The popular Mexican actor/singer, who splashed onto the Hollywood scene with Netflix’s “Sense8,” will play a version of the character made famous by John Travolta in the 1980s flick, Deadline reports. The modernized television adaptation will heavily feature music, this time, with a Latin twist, and Herrera’s role is described as a popular rodeo circuit rider who is a puppet for the drug cartel and is forced to leave flee Mexico after messing with the wrong people.

Rutina Wesley, best known for “True Blood,” is joining the DC Comics world with a recurring gig on “Arrow.” Variety has learned she will play Liza Warner, the policewoman known as “Lady Cop.” The CW show’s spin on her will be surprisingly different from that in the comics, as she will be a member of the anti-vigilante task force. Wesley also joined NBC’s “Hannibal” for this current and final season.

Matt Cohen, “Supernatural” and “90210” alum, booked an arc on Season 2 of ABC’s “How To Get Away with Murder,” playing Levi, a sexy, edgy working class guy. Creator Pete Norwalk tweeted about his casting, first reported by Deadline, and the character will be introduced in the second episode back. Cohen joins recurring player Famke Janssen who was also cast in “HTGAWM’s” upcoming season.
