Bob Newhart, Bill Nye to Guest as Science Rivals on ‘Big Bang Theory’
Fresh off Bob Newhart’s Emmy win for the role, CBS’s “The Big Bang Theory” is bringing back Professor Proton. Plus, the geek meter goes off the charts with news of an upcoming guest turn by Bill Nye the Science Guy.
The pair will guest star as rival TV scientists on the episode airing Nov. 7, CBS announced on Wednesday.
On the episode, Professor Proton, Sheldon’s (Jim Parsons) childhood hero, is back but not for him. He reaches out to Leonard (Johnny Galecki) for help on an experiment. In turn, the sparks fly when Sheldon seeks revenge by befriending Proton’s rival TV host, Nye.

TV veteran, Newhart, 84, had been nominated just seven times for an Emmy throughout his 52-year career and finally won last month for his “The Big Bang Theory” guest role.
Nye, who began his career as a mechanical engineer at Boeing, hosted the Disney/PBS children’s science show “Bill Nye the Science Guy” from 1993–98. This week, he was eliminated from ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.”
Also this season, “Raising Hope” actress Kate Micucci plays Lucy, a potential love interest for the geeky Raj (Kunal Nayyar), in a multi-episode arc.
