Beyoncé's interview with Oprah touches on the singer's miscarriage, her father, and Jay-Z [Video]

The famously private Beyoncé Knowles has met her match in Oprah Winfrey.

The TV queen gets the 31-year-old singer to open up in a candid interview on "Oprah's Next Chapter," airing on OWN Saturday at 8 PM. An HBO documentary about Beyoncé's life, "Life Is But a Dream," will also air that night.

In the interview, Beyoncé touches on many subjects, including a miscarriage she suffered before having daughter Blue Ivy last year. Her husband, Jay-Z, alluded to the sad event in his song "Glory."

"'It was the saddest thing I've ever been through," she tells Oprah. But Beyoncé says she believes everything happens for a reason in her life journey.

"I had to go through my miscarriage, I believe I had to go through owning my company and managing myself ... ultimately your independence comes from knowing who you are and you being happy with yourself."

Part of that independence also came from firing her father, Matthew Knowles, as her manager. He'd shepherded her career in Destiny's Child, but when Beyoncé turned 18, she took the reins -- to his shock.

"We had our issues," she says. "We would fight sometimes, and it took about two years, to when I was 20, for him to realize, 'Oh, she is an adult now, and if she doesn't want to do something, I can't make her do it.'"

After Matthew Knowles divorced her mother, Tina, in 2011, rumors flew of a rift between father and daughter, but the two now seem to be on good terms.

Beyonéce also opens up about her marriage to Jay-Z, which she has been fiercely private about until now.

"I would not be the woman I am if I did not go home to that man," she tells Oprah. "It gives me such a foundation."

And now that they have a daughter together, their marriage has only grown stronger. "This baby has made me love him more than I ever thought I could love another human being," Beyoncé says.

What having Blue Ivy hasn't changed is how Beyoncé views her career. The new mom, who gained 57 pounds during her pregnancy, did a show just three months after giving birth, "which is really crazy," she says.

But she tells Oprah she needed to do it. "I feel so fortunate to do my job," Beyoncé gushes. "I love my job. I love singing. I love the way it feels."
