BBC’s Doctor Foster Star Suranne Jones Reveals Real-Life Inspiration Behind Gripping Scenes

If the highlight of last week for you was watching the BBC’s Doctor Foster knocking back the Pinot and snapping ‘B*tch is right… and I’m a WOLF tonight!’ - then congratulations, you join the rest of us in having excellent taste and being completely transfixed by the fiercest medical professional this side of Holby City.

But whilst we’ve all been biting our fingernails off watching Doctor Foster plot the eventual demise of her hoe-bag husband, Suranne Jones has revealed how she used real-life experiences to help her prepare for the now-iconic role.

And before you all start having apoplexy, it’s NOTHING to do with her presumably quite lovely husband - magazine editor Lawrence Ankers - but rather two of her gal pals who experienced a very similar thing to Dr. Gemma in the show.

Speaking to The Sun, Suranne said:“Unfortunately I’ve got two friends who this has happened to.

“Some of the things that they found themselves doing, whether it is just the start of looking at someone’s email or checking someone’s mobile phone, what that can lead to is quite something.”

Well, if it was anything like episode five then we’d like ring-side seats next time, please.

The actress, who in our humble opinion should just be handed the BAFTA now thankyou-very-much, also said that after the seed of doubt has been planted in a relationship, it’s hard to get away from - but that she could understand why Gemma might have wanted to stay:

“She can never be the wife that didn’t look at her husband’s emails ever again once that path has been crossed.”

“You have to let go of the relationship, or you think you are letting go of it, but you can’t because life is bigger, plans are bigger.

“Gemma and Simon probably have a year of plans, picking up Tom from school, holidays, plans with friends.

“So even if you’re capable of letting go of what the relationship was, it’s hard to let go of the whole life around it.

“Maybe that’s what keeps you there, whilst you’re still sleeping in the same bed as someone you hate and can’t stand. Life is complicated.”

WELL YOU CAN SAY THAT AGAIN, SURANNE. Ever since watching Doctor Foster we can barely trust a soul - every time our boyfriend goes to the loo for longer than 3 mins we suddenly suspect he’s embroiled in an orgy with the neighbours.
