Barbara Walters Slams Lindsay Lohan for Bailing on '20/20' Interview
Barbara Walters won't be allowed to go hard on Lindsay Lohan -- and she's really upset about it.
The veteran interviewer vented on Monday's episode of her daytime talk show "The View," complaining that the "Mean Girls" actress canceled a scheduled interview on "20/20" before agreeing to an interview on "The Tonight Show."
While Walters didn't say so in as many words, she strongly suggested that Lohan bailed on the "20/20" interview to duck hardball questions, which "Tonight Show" host Jay Leno wouldn't be likely to ask.
According to Walters, Lohan's new publicists -- her previous spokesman quit last month, for some reason -- told her that the actress didn't feel "up to" doing the "20/20" interview, an excuse that Walters brushes off as flimsy.
"If they said to me, 'You know, Barbara, she isn't up to the kind of questions that you might ask ... I wouldn't feel quite as disappointed as I do today."
Walters told the audience on "The View" that the interview mostly would have revolved around comparisons between Lohan's life and that of Elizabeth Taylor. (Lohan plays the screen legend in the upcoming Lifetime biopic "Liz & Dick.")
"It would have been a wonderful, wonderful interview, and she could have set a lot of things straight," Walters said.
Lohan, whose scrapes with the law are a matter of record, is once again facing legal difficulties -- according to TMZ, the actress may have violated her probation by allegedly lying to police officers about being behind the wheel of her Porsche during a June collision with a truck.
A representative of Lohan has not yet responded to TheWrap's request for comment.
Lohan is scheduled to appear on "The Tonight Show" on Nov. 20 -- assuming she doesn't cancel that appearance too.
