Andy Griffith's Cause of Death Named

Andy Griffith, the entertainment legend who died Tuesday at the age of 86, died of a heart attack, the actor's death certificate reveals.

According to the Associated Press, Griffith had suffered the heart attack 24 hours before his death, which occurred at 7 a.m. on Tuesday.

The death certificate, filed with the vital records office of Dare County, North Carolina, on Thursday, also notes that the actor had long suffered from illnesses including coronary heart disease, hypertension and hyperlipidemia, which can be a risk factor for cardiovascular disease.

Griffith, who played Sheriff Andy Taylor on "The Andy Griffith Show" from 1960 to 1968, was buried just hours after his death at the Griffith Family Cemetery in Manteo, North Carolina, on the north central area of Roanoke Island, where Griffith died.
