‘The Americans’ Sets the Pace as FX Leads TCA Nominations
FX’s first-year drama “The Americans” racked up four nominations for this year’s Television Critics Association Awards as the cabler was the most honored network for the first time.
“The Americans” is nominated for Outstanding Achievement in Drama, joined by AMC’s “Breaking Bad” and “The Walking Dead” as well as HBO’s “Game of Thrones” and Showtime’s “Homeland.” It’s also up for Program of the Year, where its competition includes Netflix’s “House of Cards.”
“The Americans” also earned a nomination for New Program, and its star Matthew Rhys earned an acting nom for Individual Achievement in Drama.
For a third straight year, “Louie” was nominated in the category of Outstanding Achievement in Comedy, and its star Louis C.K. earned his third consecutive TCA nod for Indidual Achievement in Comedy. Both “Louie” and Louis C.K. won those awards last year.
And FX’s “American Horror Story: Asylum” is among the nominations for Outstanding Minseries, Movie or Special, opposite the likes of HBO’s “Behind the Candelabra” and PBS’ “Downton Abbey.”
With seven nominations, FX finished ahead of CBS, NBC and HBO, each of whom picked up six, and AMC, with five.
“These were not easy choices for our 200-plus members,” said TCA President Candace Havens after the nominations were revealed Monday. “The past TV season was filled with deserving people and programs, and these are the cream of the crop.”
In addition to recognizing the year’s finest programming, the TCA Awards bestow a Heritage Award trophy to one long-standing program that has culturally or socially impacted society. This year, the TCA members have nominated some of TV’s most memorable series with CBS’s “All In the Family”; ABC’s “Lost” and “Twin Peaks;” and NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” and “Star Trek.”
This year’s TCA Awards will be presented Aug. 3, during the summer’s TCA press tour. Below is a full list of the nominations.
