Accuser Recants Sex Allegations Against Sesame Street Puppeteer Kevin Clash

Sex-Abuse Suits Against Former Sesame Street Puppeteer Kevin Clash Dismissed

The man who accused Sesame Street puppeteer Kevin Clash of having an improper sexual relationship with him has recanted his story.

The unnamed accuser, who first claimed that Clash engaged in a sexual relationship with him when he was 16, now says that he and the man who voices Elmo had “an adult consensual relationship,” The New York Times reports.

When the initial story broke Monday, Clash had taken a leave of absence from the PBS show to challenge the allegations that the relationship between him and the now-23-year-old accuser involved underage sex.

In a statement released Monday, Sesame Workshop said it investigated the claims and “found the allegation of underage conduct to be unsubstantiated,” though it went on to say “that Kevin exercised poor judgment and violated company policy regarding Internet usage, and he was disciplined.”

Through a spokesman, Clash told the Times: “I am relieved that this painful allegation has been put to rest. I will not discuss it further.
