2013 Daytime Emmys: Which Network Scored 50 Nominations?
And which soap opera brought in nearly half those nods?
CBS's daytime drama "The Young and the Restless," which is celebrating its 40th season on the air this year, is celebrating another number today -- 23, the number of nominations the top-rated soap received for the 2013 Daytime Emmy Awards.
"Y&R" brought in nearly half the 50 nods earned by CBS, including nominations for Outstanding Drama Series, Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series (Michelle Stafford), and three of four Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series nominations (Peter Bergman, Doug Davidson, and Michael Muhney).
PBS followed with 44 nominations, while ABC totaled 38 nods, Nickelodeon earned 36 nominations, and NBC checked in with 25. ABC's "General Hospital," which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, followed closely behind "Y&R" with 19 nominations, while "Sesame Street" and NBC's "Days of Our Lives" earned 17 nods each.

Despite the Matt Lauer/Ann Curry scandal and slipping ratings, NBC's "Today" earned a nomination for Outstanding Morning Program, along with "CBS Sunday Morning" and ABC's "Good Morning America," the current morning-show ratings leader.

There are only four daytime soap operas currently on the air, yet there are five nominees in the Outstanding Drama Series category. Did someone make a math boo-boo? Nah -- the canceled (but, as of this week, revived online) ABC drama "One Life to Live" joins current soaps "The Young and the Restless," "General Hospital," "Days of Our Lives," and "The Bold and the Beautiful" in the Outstanding Drama Series race.

In addition to Stafford from "Y&R," the lead actress nominees include "Days of Our Lives" star Peggy McCay, who hasn't been nominated for a Daytime Emmy since 1987; reigning lead actress champ Heather Tom ("B&B"); and Susan Flannery, the four-time Daytime Emmy winner whose Stephanie Forrester character was killed off on "B&B" last November.
"GH" star Jason Thompson joins Bergman, Davidson, and Muhney as Outstanding Lead Actor nominees. Thompson and Muhney are both first-time nominees in the category, while Bergman is a three-time winner. Davidson, who's played Paul Williams for 35 years, will be looking for his first Daytime Emmy win.

Surprise nominee in the Outstanding Performer in a Children's Series category: Former "Sesame Street" star Kevin Clash -- aka Elmo -- who resigned from the beloved series last year after he was accused of having a sexual relationship with an teenage boy. Clash will complete against fellow "Street"-ers Joey Mazzarino and David Rudman, as well as "Ocean Mysteries" star Jeff Corwin.

"The Ellen DeGeneres Show" leads all talk-show nominees with 10 nods, including Outstanding Talk Show/Entertainment, and nominations for directing, writing, lighting, and costume design. DeGeneres's talk show/entertainment competition includes "Live! With Kelly and Michael," "The Talk," and "The View."
Outstanding Talk Show/Informative nominees: "The Doctors," "The Dr. Oz Show," and Katie Couric's "Katie." Snubbed in the category for a second year in a row: "Dr. Phil."

Outstanding Game Show Host nominees: Five-time Daytime Emmy winner Alex Trebek -- who's rumored to be retiring from his "Jeopardy" hosting gig soon -- leads the pack, which also includes Wayne Brady ("Let's Make a Deal"), Ben Bailey ("Cash Cab"), Billy Eichner ("Funny or Die's Billy on the Street"), and Steve Harvey ("Family Feud").

The 40th annual Daytime Emmys telecast will air live on June 16 on HLN, from the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Game-show host legend Monty Hall ("Let's Make a Deal") and the late game-show-producing legend Bob Stewart will be honored with Lifetime Achievement Awards.
