'Real Housewives' star critiques daughter's modeling

Yolanda H. Foster, one of the reality stars of Bravo's "Real Housewives of Beverly Hills," showed off some unusual parenting techniques on Monday night's episode.

While her daughter, 17-year-old aspiring model Gigi Hadid, prepared for a photo shoot, Foster criticized her choice in eye makeup, calling it "Chinese looking." Foster, herself a former model, also told her daughter that she shouldn't overeat at her upcoming birthday party. "You can have one night of being bad," Foster said. "And then you gotta get back on your diet. In Paris, they like the girls a tad on the skinny side."

No doubt, but is it wise to discourage a young girl from eating? Commenters at Us Weekly saw both sides of the argument. Some wrote things like, "I watched this last night and thought immediately that this woman is horrible!" Others thought Foster was just looking out for her daughter. A spelling-challenged commenter wrote, "I think thet [sic] Yolanda knows how the industry is, and how cruel they can be! Her talking to her daughter about dieting is nothing more then a mother taking care to insure her daughter is the best that she wants to be."

Twitter feedback has been uniformly brutal. Models of Diversity tweeted: "Gigi Hadid: Real Housewives' Yolanda Foster advises daughter, 17, she needs to be 'on the skinny side'… Wrong !!!!" MarylewRI tweeted: "Wow I'm amazed by Yolanda on #rhobh telling her 17yo model daughter to keep on a strict diet cuz Europe likes em skinny. Unbelievable." Kishaallday wrote: "Yolanda shouldn't tell her already thin daughter to go on a diet. The message should be health & wellness not skinny at all cost."

Foster married award-winning composer David Foster last year. Their wedding was attended by Heidi Klum and Oprah Winfrey. According to her biography at Bravo, "After getting the kids off to school, she puts in a full day at the office running her exciting new company, Hopelessly Romantic, a creative one-stop destination to help men and women 'get wise and keep their romance alive!'"
