'American Idol': Welcome Back, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj?

Mariah Carey, Keith Urban, and Nicki Minaj on "American Idol"

The more things change, the more they (might) stay the same.

Fox entertainment chairman Kevin Reilly told reporters in a conference call prior to the Fox upfront presentation on Monday that all "American Idol" judges are welcome back next season. He confirms that Randy Jackson will not be returning next season. And, the talent show will go back to its original format of only three judges.

Reilly's statement is a direct contradiction of rumors swirling that Mariah, Nicki, and Keith would all be getting the boot after nonstop reports of diva demands and childish infighting.

However, it's important to read between the lines. Reilly says the judges are "welcome," but that does not mean the judges will accept his invitation. Given the tanking ratings and the show's waning cultural relevance, it wouldn't be a surprise if Reilly's invitation got lost in the mail.
