Ryan Lochte’s ‘DWTS’ Performance Interrupted by Protesters

During the live broadcast premiere of Dancing With the Stars, protesters interrupted the critique of Ryan Lochte’s performance. The controversial swimmer has been in hot water since fabricating a story about being mugged at gunpoint during the Rio Olympics.

After Lochte and his dance partner, Cheryl Burke, finished their performance, two men wearing anti-Lochte T-shirts reportedly stormed the stage. The incident happened off camera, but the fracas could be heard over judge Carrie Ann Inaba shouting, “Excuse me!”

The show cut to commercial. When they returned host Tom Bergeron thanked their security team for quickly resolving the issue.

When asked how he felt about the interruption, Lochte said, “So many feelings … a little hurt, but I came out here, wanted to do something I’m completely not comfortable with, and I came out with a big smile, and had the best dance partner.”

Dancing With the Stars airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on ABC.
