Rome Film Festival to Launch with Pre-Event Screening of 'American Pastoral'

The Hollywood Reporter

The 11th Rome Film Fest will officially kick off Oct. 13, but the festivities are getting started early this year. A pre-festival screening of American Pastoral will take place Oct. 3 in the center of the Italian capital at the Teatro Barberini.

Director and star Ewan McGregor will be on hand to present the film, along with co-star Jennifer Connelly. Based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel by Philip Roth, McGregor's directorial debut follows Seymour "Swede" Levov, a man who has everything but whose life slowly falls apart when his teenage daughter commits an act of terrorism. The film explores the quintessential question of where did the American Dream go so terribly wrong for the Swede? Dakota Fanning also stars.

American Pastoral debuted in Toronto and is set to be released in the U.S. by Lionsgate on Oct. 21.

The Rome Film Fest is set to run Oct. 13-23. Antonio Monda serves as artistic director in his second year. Other scheduled guests include Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, David Mamet, Viggo Mortensen and Oliver Stone.
