Disney Shows Off First 27 Minutes Of ‘Finding Dory’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ Screens – CinemaCon
UPDATE with more info: Disney kept it short at its CinemaCon presentation this morning at Caesars Palace Colosseum in Las Vegas. While there were no stars, the stars were the films.
Disney distribution honcho Dave Hollis took to the stage talking about the studio’s banner year, capped by the record-breaking $2B success of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, and in 2016, the near-$900M global success of Zootopia. He showed last week’s trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but made no other news in regard to the title of the stand-alone Han Solo movie, or Star Wars: Episode VIII. As we always knew, Rogue One will trailer in front of Captain America: Civil War.
Hollis said he is excited about The Jungle Book opening this weekend. It has a 100% Rotten Tomatoes score and ranked No. 1 in its overseas territories last weekend. He said the Disney live-action feature adaptations like Cinderella and Alice In Wonderland average $700M at the global box office, and that test screenings for the next pic in that franchise, Beauty And The Beast, are fantastic.
director Andrew Stanton did appear onstage before the first 27 minutes of the movie were shown to the crowd of industryites. He said he pursued this project for four years. Although attendees are not permitted to review what we saw, let’s just say Toy Story 3 may have a challenge to its standing as the top-grossing Pixar film worldwide ($1.06B).
Hollis this morning also went through the 2016 release schedule and touched on all the releases. That included a clip from Steven Spielberg’s The BFG, which looks like fresh footage as we see the young girl hanging out in the fantasy world of giant country.
Hollis transitioned to the Marvel brand — its 12 films racked up $9 billion — and then showed the Doctor Strange trailer that dropped last night.
