"Smash" returns for a second run on NBC mid-season.

Martin is no stranger to television work. Following his run in "Rent," he appeared on the Fox lawyer dramedy "Ally McBeal," and played Det. Ed Green from 1999 to 2008 on "Law & Order."

"Smash," which chronicles the trials and triumphs of aspiring Broadway stars, underwent a shakeup at the end of its first season, with creator and showrunner Theresa Rebeck departing, along with numerous cast members.
