RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Up Strong, ‘Voice’ Hits Low, ‘Hawaii Five-O’ Finale Down, ‘Motive’ Debuts Soft

Monday saw a primetime mix of live shows, encores, finales, premieres and prayers for those in the path of the tornado in Oklahoma. On ABC, the last performance show of Dancing With The Stars (2.5/7) before tonight’s Season 16 results finale saw the final four couples strut their stuff once last time. DWTS certainly flexed some muscle as the show was up 25% from its series performance low tie of May 13. The most watched program of the night with 14.73 million viewers, the two-hour show was down 14% from its one-hour May 21, 2012 performance finale and dipped 7% from its last performance show of last season on November 26, 2012. Although the show was up from last week, it appeared last night like the total votes might be down. Online “technical difficulties” saw voting on ABC’s website temporarily suspended, forcing viewers to cast their ballots via text, Facebook and phone. The online voting was restored before the show was over and viewers were encouraged to hit the website to decided who gets the Mirrorball trophy. Afterward, new crime procedural Motive (1.4/4) did not benefit from its lead-in. The Canadian import was down sharply from the 2.2/6 of Castle’s season finale last week and down 30% from Scandal’s April 5, 2012 debut. ABC won the night in total viewers and in adults 18-49.

Kicking off with a performance from judge Adam Levine’s Maroon 5 and words of comfort to tornado-struck Oklahoma from Blake Shelton, The Voice (3.4/10) saw performances from the final 10 contestants. The two-hour live competition show was down 11% from its May 13 show to hit a season performance show low as well as the lowest-rated Monday show in its history. As has happened frequently this season, expect an adjustment in the final number later today. Voice lead-out Revolution (1.9/5) was flat with last week.

CBS pulled a tornado-themed Season 3 finale of Mike & Molly scheduled for last night to run an encore out of sensitivity to the devastation in Oklahoma. The network say the episode will run at a later date. Amid other set repeats, CBS did have finales of Rules Of Engagement (1.8/5) and Hawaii Five-O (2.0/6). The now-cancelled comedy was down 14% from its last original May 6 and down the same number from its last season finale on May 17, 2012. On the other hand, the Season 3 ender of the island cop show was up 11% from its May 13 show but down 25% from its last finale on May 14, 2012. On Fox it was all encores Monday except for the debut of The Goodwin Games (0.7/2). Facing competition from both The Voice and Dancing With The Stars, the comedy, set for a seven-week burn-off run over the summer, was the lowest-rated show of the night on the broadcast networks and pulled in a mere 1.75 million viewers. An 8 PM (0.3/1) airing of CW’s Oh Sit! was even with last week’s show while a special 9 PM airing received a 0.2/1.
