RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘Bachelorette’ Premiere Hits Series Low, ‘Voice’ Falls To New Low, ‘Goodwin Games’ Flat

The first full week of the summer season has begun and for two of the Big Four that meant a full slate on Memorial Day. On ABC, The Bachelorette (1.9/5) was back with a two-hour Season 9 premiere. The beginning of former Bachelor contestant Desiree Hartsock’s search for love started off down 27% from Season 8′s 90-minute premiere on May 14, 2012. That show was a lead-out from Dancing With The Stars. Head-to-head with NBC’s The Voice on Monday, last night’s Bachelorette was the lowest season debut in the show’s history. Monday’s season debut was also down from the 3.0/9 of Season 8’s finale on July 22. The Bachelorette season premiere was followed by a 20/20 (1.3/4) special hosted by Barbara Walters.

On NBC, The Voice (3.1/9) had judge Blake Shelton performing his new single, a rendition of Adele’s Skyfall Bond theme from one of the contestants, and more from the remaining finalists in anticipation of tonight’s chopping of the last 8 to 6. Continuing six straight weeks of decline, Monday’s Voice was down 11% from last week’s show. That’s a new all-time series low for a performance episode. However, the show was the highest-rated and most-watched (10.88 million viewers) of the night. Also, by the nature of live events, expect an adjustment in the final ratings later today. Following The Voice as usual, Revolution (1.9/5) was even with its May 20 episode. NBC won the night in total viewers (9.410 million) and adults 18-49.
