Ratings: No Finale Boost for CBS’ ‘Supergirl’; NBC’s ‘The Voice’ Tops Night Despite Low

The spring’s general downward trajectory of ratings continued Monday as top shows “The Voice” and “Dancing With the Stars” hit season lows — the latter plummeting one week after spiking to a high — while CBS’ “Supergirl” didn’t see any kind of ratings bounce with its finale..

According to preliminary estimates from Nielsen, “Supergirl” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 6.2 million viewers overall) was down a tenth from last week, which had matched the rookie show’s low, though it has a chance to edge up in the finals; in total viewers, it was up a smidge. CBS has yet to renew any of its first-year series, though most insiders expect “Supergirl,” the network’s top new drama in adults 18-49, will be back for a second season.

CBS followed “Supergirl” last night with “Scorpion” (1.5/5 in 18-49, 8.2 million viewers overall) and “NCIS: Los Angeles” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 7.7 million viewers overall), both of which were also down a tenth week to week. The latter continues to finish closely behind timeslot leader “Blindspot” in both 18-49 and 25-54 adter the NBC program enjoyed sizable advantages last fall.

NBC won the night in demos behind timeslot-winning performances from both “The Voice” (2.2/7 in 18-49, 9.9 million viewers overall) and “Blindspot” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 5.6 million viewers overall), both down a tick from last week (though “Voice” held steady with last week’s prelim score). Last week’s “Blindspot” delivered the biggest Monday lifts from “same-day” to “live plus-3,” rising 0.92 in 18-49 (1.37 to 2.29) and by more than 3 million total viewers (5.5 million to 8.6 million).

One week after spiking to a 2016 high with its popular Disney-themed night of dances, ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars” took a tumble (1.6/5 in 18-49, 11.0 million viewers overall), down 0.4 (20%) to a season low; it still placed second for its 8-10 p.m. timeslot in demos and first in total viewers. And at 10 p.m., “Castle” (1.0/3 in 18-49, 6.0 million viewers overall) was down a tenth from last week and again placed third among the broadcasters in 18-49.

At CW, the season finale of “Crazy Ex-Girlfriend” delivered typical numbers (0.3/1 in 18-49, 0.8 million viewers overall); the show has been very low-rated all season, but its acclaim garnered it a second-season renewal by the network. “Jane the Virgin,” which wraps its second season next month, was also about average last night (0.4/1 in 18-49, 0.9 million viewers overall). Last week’s “Jane” jumped 74% in 18-49 rating in L+3 (0.38 to 0.66).

Fox’s “Gotham” (1.2/4 in 18-49, 3.7 million viewers overall) was steady week to week, pulling into an 18-49 tie with “Supergirl.” And “Lucifer” (1.3/4 in 18-49, 3.9 million viewers overall) bounced back 0.2 from its low of last week. In “live plus-3” for last week, “Lucifer” was the biggest percentage gainer among the Big Four networks, rising 71% from its same-day 18-49 average (1.06 to 1.81).
