The new ABC comedy "How to Live With Your Parents (for the Rest of Your Life)" continued its downward trend, dropping 25 percent, while "American Idol" dipped slightly from last Wednesday but still posted the night's top numbers to hand Fox a win for the night, according to preliminary numbers.
Fox, which ran "Idol" throughout primetime, took first place in the advertiser-sought 18-49 demographic with a 3.2 rating/9 share and in total viewers with 12.2 million. The ratings represent a 3 percent dip in the demo for "Idol" compared to last Wednesday, but the episode still grabbed the night's best demo performance and highest total viewership.
CBS took second place in ratings and total viewers with a 1.9/5 and 7.8 million. The network aired repeats except for "Survivor" at 8, which drew even with last week for a 2.7/8 and took 9.8 million total viewers.
Univision came in third in ratings and fifth in total viewers with a 1.5/4 and 3.5 million.
NBC took fourth place in ratings and third in total viewers with a 1.4/4 and 5.6 million. "Dateline" at 8 was up 8 percent for a 1.3/4 and had 5.5 million total viewers, while "Law & Order: SVU" the following hour climbed 13 percent for a 1.8/5 and drew 7.2 million total viewers. A "Chicago Fire" repeat closed the night.
ABC was fifth in ratings and fourth in total viewers with a 1.3/4 and 4.2 million. The network aired repeats, aside from "How to Live With Your Parents" at 9:30. Without the benefit of an original lead-in, the comedy dropped off 25 percent, posting a 1.5/4. It drew 4.8 million total viewers.
At the CW, which was sixth in ratings and total viewers with a 1.0/3 and 3.5 million, "Arrow" at 8 climbed 11 percent in the demo for a 1.0/3 and took 3 million total viewers. "Supernatural" the following hour grew 25 percent in the ratings to a 1.0/3. The series drew 2.4 million total viewers, its second-largest audience of the season.
