Ratings: Big Bang Theory Premiere Down vs. Year Ago, But Tops Night

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory opened Season 10 on Monday night with 15.8 million total viewers and a 3.8 demo rating (per finals), down 13 and 19 percent from its year-ago opener. Those tallies mark the hitcom’s lowest premiere numbers since Season 6 and 2, respectively. TVLine readers gave it an average grade of “B.”

Leading out of that, Kevin Can Wait debuted to 11.1 mil and a 2.6 (and a “C” grade), matching Life in Pieces‘ year-ago post-Bang numbers, but demonstrating greater retention (70 vs. 55 percent) of its lead-in. The JonBenet Ramsey mini conclusion (8.2 mil/1.8) was down 19 and 14 percent from Part 1.

FOX | Gotham (3.9 mil/1.3, “B+” grade) slipped 17 and 19 percent from its sophomore premiere, but was up a tenth from its May finale. Lucifer (4.4 mil/1.3, “A-” grade) matched its freshman finale and (faint praise alert!) improved on Minority Report’s year-ago debut.
