‘Project Runway: Junior’ Finale Serves Tawdry Realness

On the finale of Project Runway: Junior, we were down to the final four — Chris, Izzy, Hawwaa, and Chelsea. Tim Gunn thought Chelsea was making some questionable choices with some “cheap and tawdry” sequined underwear. Chelsea quickly gave the underwear the ax even though she didn’t know what “tawdry” meant.

With the designers taking their looks to the runway, Izzy brought us chic athleisure, while Hawwaa gave us circus. Chelsea’s collection was inspired by a video game in which an android goes into nature and slowly becomes a human. Chris took inspiration from New York, and one of his pieces, a “negative space hoodie,” really wowed the judges.

Although Chelsea’s red leather dress and the cohesiveness of her collection really impressed the judges, they had some issues with one piece, described as a muumuu with leather sleeves.

With Izzy placing fourth and Hawwaa placing third, it came down to Chris and Chelsea. And though Chelsea ultimately won, earning the prize of a scholarship to FIDM, Chris saw the silver lining, saying, “I’m just, like, thrilled to be runner-up right now. I’m like, cool, I got second place. You know, I’m still better than everyone else, besides Chelsea.”

Project Runway: Junior airs Thursdays at 10 p.m. on Lifetime.
