'Project Runway' design has model feeling 'naked'
On Project Runway, designer Michael Brambila was only using the bare essentials for this week’s unconventional materials challenge. Challenged to create an outfit out of materials one might find in a car, Brambila made a design out of mostly bungee cords and not a whole lot else. After his model Christina was fitted she said, “I’m wearing the bungee outfit, and it has nothing underneath. I’m telling you, I’m naked, guys. I’m, like, naked. So grab some pizza and some popcorn, ’cause you’re gonna see a naked girl on Project Runway.”
Brambila quickly found himself questioning his own aesthetic saying to the other designers in the workroom, “Oh, my God. This is awful. It looks like a stripper outfit.”
Ultimately, Michael did add some more elements, like a skirt and a top and it may have covered Christina up a bit more but the aesthetic wasn’t elevated enough for the judges. Nina Garcia said, “She looks like a backup dancer for a music video,” while guest judge and actor, Carly Chaikin said, “It’s very hooker-ish. Looks a little, like, tacky and cheap. Yeah, I’m not a fan.”
Project Runway airs Thursdays at 9 p.m. on Lifetime.
