Daugherty will recur as star college athlete Thane Lockwood in the upcoming Netflix comedy Dear White People, TVLine has learned. A corn-fed jock, Thane performs much better on the football field than he does in any of his classes.

Based on the 2014 film, Dear White People follows a diverse group of students attending a mostly-white Ivy League school where race-related issues tend to get overlooked. The 10-episode first season of the Lionsgate-produced series begins production in September for a worldwide release on Netflix in 2017.

In addition to Pretty Little Liars, Dougherty’s TV credits include roles on Days of Our Lives and Army Wives. He also had a successful run on Dancing With the Stars in 2013. On the big screen, Daugherty is set to appear in the Fifty Shades of Grey sequel Fifty Shades Darker.
