"The Facts of Life's" resident spoiled rich girl, Blair Warner, had it all. But off-screen, the actress who portrayed her, Lisa Whelchel, wasn't as concerned about material goods. A devout Christian from age 10, Whelchel had a different set of priorities. Rather than sacrifice her moral values for fame, Whelchel actually gave up the chance to star in one of "Facts'" juiciest storylines, and Natalie became the first Eastland alum to lose her virginity.
After the show ended, she all but left the spotlight. Despite a Grammy-nominated inspirational pop album she released in 1984 called "All Because of You," she didn't pursue a career in music either. Her only other public appearances have pretty much been "Facts"-related -- a 2001 made-for-TV movie, a mini-reunion on the "Today" show in 2006, and a couple of TV Land award-show appearances.
Leaving acting and music behind, Whelchel is still a devout Christian who became an inspirational speaker and has written a series of books about parenting, friendship, and homeschooling.
Now Whelchel is poised to make what some might consider a less glamorous return to TV. It was just announced that she will be one of the 18 contestants on the next installment of "Survivor." True, her stint on television's toughest reality show will be far less polished than the lifestyle that Blair Warner was accustomed to. Yet if Whelchel can muster up some of her character's more cunning characteristics, she just might win.
