Rewind Guide: How to Catch Up on Shows You've Missed

While there are plenty of great series on during the summer, compared with the rest of the year, it's a relatively slow season -- and therefore the perfect time to finally get around to watching those shows you meant to check out before they start their next seasons -- and we don't just mean the handful of new series with 13 or fewer episodes. We're referring to many series and the dozens of hours needed to watch them. Because marathoning can be daunting, we've created this spoiler-free guide on which series' filler or now-irrelevant episodes you can skip, and which are crucial to watch so that you don't miss any important backstory before their new seasons start. Unfortunately for series that are complicated in terms of plot, character, and mythology, such as "Game of Thrones," "The Vampire Diaries," "Fringe," "Pretty Little Liars," and "Mad Men," you have no choice but to watch every minute as not to miss anything crucial. On the bright side, at least you're in for some good drama. And to be clear, for most of the shows mentioned, we're not necessarily denigrating the seasons we suggest momentarily skipping -- it's just that there are only so many hours in the day.
