Paget Brewster Returns to ‘Criminal Minds’ for Multiple Episodes in Season 12

Criminal Minds” is putting some more Prentiss in its pocket for season 12. Paget Brewster’s SSA Emily Prentiss will appear in multiple episodes, CBS has revealed.

“We’re excited to have Paget Brewster back for multiple episodes in our 12th season,” said showrunner Erica Messer. “The BAU can use more help this year since they’ve got a lot of known and unknown subjects to catch.” At the end of the last season, a series of prison breaks resulted in the release of 13 serial killers.

Brewster first appeared on the series in the second season of the CBS crime drama, when the character joined the BAU to help the team catch two serial killers in St. Louis, and stayed on as a regular for six seasons. Prentiss has returned twice in the intervening years, including toward the end of last season.

Brewster was freed up to head back to “Criminal Minds” after the cancellation of Fox’s “Grandfathered,” on which she was a regular. She also guests on Comedy Central’s “Another Period.”

“Criminal Minds” stars Joe Mantegna, Thomas Gibson, Matthew Gray Gubler, A.J. Cook, Kirsten Vangsness and Adam Rodriguez. Messer, Mark Gordon and Breen Frazier are executive producers for ABC Studios in association with CBS Television Studios. Season 12 will premiere Sept. 28 at 9/8c.
