Carly Patterson is going to be a mom!
The former Olympic gymnast announced her pregnancy this week in a series of sweet photo posts alongside her husband, Mark Caldwell. Having previously struggled to conceive, this will be the couple's first child.
"Those closest to us know we have struggled to get pregnant for quite some time and were wondering if this would ever happen for us," Patterson, 29, revealed on Instagram. "Thankfully, God has answered our prayers and Baby Caldwell is due October 2017!"
"Mark and I could not be more overjoyed for our little miracle and we cannot wait to start this journey of parenthood!" she continued. "'For this child I have prayed and the Lord has granted the desires of my heart' 1 Samuel 1:27."
In a second post, Patterson holds up a strip of ultrasound photos while posing for a selfie in the car. The retired athlete said that she is 15 weeks into her pregnancy.
Patterson skipped the Rio Games last year, where she had reportedly been offered a correspondent role with Today, due to concerns over the Zika virus. Previously, during the 2004 competition in Athens, she had taken home All-around gold, Team silver, and Balance Beam silver medals.
Simone Biles and Aly Raisman went on to bring home the all-around gold and silver, respectively, for the U.S. in 2016. Now, Biles has parlayed her Olympic fame into a gig on Dancing With the Stars! See her incredible Moana-inspired performance for Disney Week, below.
