No. 7 ‘Big Hero 6′ – 2014 Most Valuable Blockbuster Movie Tournament

The true tale is told when production budgets, P&A, talent participations and other costs collide with box office grosses, and ancillary revenues from VOD to DVD and TV. To get close to that mysterious end of the equation, Deadline is repeating our Most Valuable Blockbuster tournament, using data culled by seasoned and trusted sources. We’re counting down from No. 20 and will present the data en masse Monday.
THE FILM: Another wildly profitable film for Disney, this one coming from Walt Disney Animation Studios. It was the first major film for directors Don Hall and Chris Williams, so and very little talent deals since voice-over is typically box office bonuses only. Let’s see how this propelled Big Hero 6.

THE BOTTOM LINE: A big success for Disney. The film is on track to post a $664 million worldwide gross on $220M domestic, and a whopping $400M foreign, plus $45M from China (Disney kept $11.25M of that). The budget of $165M was OK, and left the studio with a $187.3M net profit that is as swollen as the film’s title character, and a Cash on Cash Return of 1.43. Can you say sequel?
