‘Ninja Warrior’ Contestant Brings Clean Water to Impoverished People

Nate Burkhalter isn’t just another American Ninja Warrior hopeful, he’s also an engineer who has found a new passion after traveling the world for work. While competing in the Oklahoma City American Ninja Warrior preliminary, Burkhalter revealed that he drills fresh water wells all over world.

While his day job is that of an oil and gas engineer in Houston, he moonlights as a fresh water engineer in Africa and South America. “Going overseas, there’s beauty, there’s incredible people with great hearts, but there is deep poverty with no access to clean water, very little to eat,” said Burkhalter, adding, “I kinda have a heart that resonates with what I see. I just can’t help but jump in and say we can do something about that. I can do something about that.”

Whether it was good karma from his charitable works or developed arm strength from operating drilling equipment, it paid off. Burkhalter was the first contestant of the evening to complete the obstacle course and move on to the next round.

American Ninja Warrior airs Mondays at 8 p.m. on NBC.
