NFL Player Genuinely Believes in Mermaids But Not Dinosaurs

On Tuesday’s Hard Knocks, we learned quite a bit about Los Angeles Rams defensive lineman William Hayes. Hayes was drafted in 2008 by Jeff Fisher, when he coached the Tennessee Titans, and Hayes followed his coach to St. Louis and now Los Angeles.

Fisher revealed that Hayes has a unique fascination with creatures that are half fish, half human. “Will Hayes absolutely believes and is totally convinced that there are mermaids and they do exist,” said the coach. “I remember him getting really excited about the potential for moving out here because he knew that he would be closer to mermaids here on the west coast.”

While Hayes is a big believer in mermaids, he’s pretty skeptical about another creature that is near and dear to most kids’ hearts: dinosaurs. The former Winston-Salem State University player said, “I don’t believe in dinosaurs.” He went on to elaborate, “I just think it’s some bulls***. To be completely honest with you, I just can’t phantom [sic] a T. rex walking around here. You know, something that man ain’t never seen. No, but dinosaurs never walked this Earth.”

As far as Hayes is concerned, dinosaurs are imaginary. “All this fairy tale stuff, you know, the Easter bunny and all that sh**,” said the lineman, “They fall in the same category, them and Santa Claus.”

Hard Knocks airs Tuesdays at 10pm on HBO.
