A Thanksgiving morning Today show segment that profiled Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago retreat featured a bubbly interview with the President-elect's former butler - with no mention that the former Trump employee was investigated by the Secret Service for writing that Obama should be "hung for treason!!!"
Anthony Senecal, the Trump butler, was included on a segment talking about the specs of Trump's "winter White House" in Florida, where the mogul typically resides during the holidays and spent "the past twenty Thanksgivings."
"It's absolutely magical, it's the most beautiful place in the world," says Senecal, shown walking through the grounds at the estate and sharing family photos of himself with Trump and the future First Lady Melania Trump.
The segment made no mention that Senecal made headlines during the presidential campaign last May and was subject to a Secret Service investigation after the progressive magazine Mother Jones found multiple Facebook posts of Senecal calling for Obama to be harmed.
"Looks like that sleezey bastard zero (O) is trying to out maneuver Congress again, if the truth be known this prick needs to be hung for treason!!!," Senecal wrote in an April 2015 Facebook post, the magazine earlier reported.
Mother Jones' David Corn found even more explicit posts, including this from May 2015: "[W]ith the last breath I draw I will help rid this America of the scum infested in its government--and if that means dragging that ball less dick head from the white mosque and hanging his scrawny ass from the portico--count me in !!!!!"
The same day Senecal's Facebook post was reported, the Secret Service issued a statement saying that the agency "aware of this matter and will conduct the appropriate investigation."
This Thanksgiving's Today show segment only offered one line of background narration about Senecal, saying that he "worked there for half a century, up until 2009, for more than 20 years as the Trump family's personal butler."
NBC did not immediately respond to a request for comment. The Today show segment is below:
