RATINGS RAT RACE: ‘The Voice’ Hits Low, ‘HIMYM’, ‘Castle’ & ‘2 Broke Girls’ Finales Down, ‘DWTS’ Ties Series Low

With upfronts happening in NYC this week, it feels like a lot of the TV action is occurring off-screen. But the reality wars and multiple finales Monday proved the small screen still has a lot of moving and shaking going on. Coming off three nights last week of the live playoff round and a season low, The Voice (3.6/10) took a hit last night — and not just because the AC wasn’t working in the studio for the first part of the show. The Voice was down 12% to hit a performance low for this season, and while it was the night’s top-rated show, CBS’ How I Met Your Mother bested it for the first time in their overlapping half hour. Of course, with a live show expect to see those numbers adjusted in final ratings. The Voice’s lead-out Revolution (1.9/5) was also down, but only 5% from last week. NBC still won in the adults 18-49 demo, while ABC was tops in total viewers.

On ABC, Dancing With The Stars (2.0/6) tied a series performance low from last week but was the most watched show of the night with 13.01 million viewers. The season finale of the recently renewed Castle (2.2/6) had mixed results, rising 10% from last week but dipping 8% from its Season 4 finale on May 7, 2012.

On CBS, How I Met Your Mother (3.4/11) and 2 Broke Girls (2.9/8) both had their season finales. In its final minute of its second to last season, HIMYM teased out the actual mother that it has spend eight seasons talking about. Coming off last week’s season low, the comedy was up 31% but slipped 8% from its Season 7 finale on May 7, 2012. The CBS show beat The Voice’s 3.3 in their shared half hour. After a The Big Bang Theory (2.4/7) encore, 2 Broke Girls ended its second season up a slight 7% from last week’s show but down 12% from its one-hour Season 1 finale on May 7, 2012. The rest of CBS’ night saw slight shifts as Mike & Molly (2.4/6) was up 4% from last week and Hawaii Five-O (1.8/5) was down 5%.

With The Following and Bones wrapped their seasons, Fox ran special Hell’s Kitchen episodes at 8 PM and 9 PM. Both shows garnered a 1.7/5, which is down 11% from the last Hell’s original May 7 in the Gordon Ramsay series’ regular slot.

The CW had a two-hour finale for the now cancelled 90210 (0.3/1), which was even with last week.
