MIPTV Briefs: ‘Shetland’; Keshet Int’l; Reelz Takes ‘JFK’; ‘Stars In Danger’; ‘The Taste’

ITV Studios Global Entertainment will launch crime drama Shetland in Cannes next week. The ITV Studios-produced show has just been renewed by BBC One for a second season. The series is expanding from its original two parts to become a six-parter the next time around. Douglas Henshall plays detective Jimmy Perez who returns to his home in Scotland to lead a murder investigation. The series is based on the novels by Ann Cleeves.

Keshet International, the folks behind the original Israeli format for Homeland, will offer scripted and non-scripted programming at Mip, also expanding into third-party fare for the first time. Included on the slate are Mother’s Day, which has gone to pilot in the U.S. for CBS starring Debra Messing; The A Word, a drama about a five-year-old autistic boy; and The Gordin Cell, which NBC is developing as MICE. New unscripted programming includes trivia game show Sure Or Insure and docu-reality reverse makeover show Remember Me?. Keshet’s third party titles including drama-noir Light & Truth; romantic drama Devout Love; sitcom Fox Force; and comedy drama Honey Africa.

Reelz Channel has taken the U.S. on documentary JFK: The Smoking Gun. The investigative film is based on police detective Colin McLaren’s years examining the forensic cold case into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy; McLaren believes he has found the smoking gun that killed JFK. The special is produced by Muse Entertainment (The Kennedys) and Cordell/Jigsaw/Zapruder; written by Steve Lucas and directed by Malcolm McDonald. Producers are Jesse Prupas and Michael Cordell. Muse Distribution will be selling internationally at Mip-TV.

Banijay International has licensed celebrity diving show Stars In Danger: The High Dive to Russia’s Channel One. Eight local episodes of the format are currently in production from Red Square for primetime broadcast later this month. Other local versions are launching in Turkey and China this week. Banijay will launch new formats at Mip including The Illusionist, a primetime talent competition devoted to magic; political game show Absolute Majority; dating show Dress Me To Impress Me; and real estate factual entertainment, Sold Or Broken.

Red Arrow International has sold format rights to ABC series The Taste to Russia’s Ren TV. The U.S. version features Nigella Lawson, Anthony Bourdain, Brian Malarkey and Ludo Lefebvre as judges looking for America´s most skilled cook. Other sales of The Taste have included Fox in India, Australia´s Nine Network and M6 in France.
