Dexter Darden will be joining Forest Whitaker and Garrett Hedlund in the true-life drama Burden.
Burden follows the story of an orphan, Mike Burden (Hedlund), who is raised by the Ku Klux Klan. As he grows older, and at the prompting of his girlfriend, he attempts to sever ties, only to have the Klan seek him out for vengeance. A reverend (Whitaker) and his black congregation take in Mike in the hopes of protecting him and teaching him about love and acceptance.
Darden will be playing Whitaker's onscreen son in the feature that also stars Tom Wilkinson and Usher.
Andrew Heckler wrote and will direct Burden, which is currently in production. Robbie Brenner is producing, with Jeff Kwatinetz, Gabby Revilla and Kevin McKeon acting as executive producers.
Darden is one of the young stars of the Maze Runner franchise, and will be seen in the third installment of the series, The Death Cure, reprising his role as Frypan. The up-and-comer also stars in the Fullscreen dance drama Making Moves.
Darden is repped by APA and Crimson Media.
