Discovery Communications veteran Marjorie Kaplan is leaving her role as president of content for Discovery Networks International in London, which she took on a year ago, as part of a broader reshuffle of the international organization.
Discovery president and CEO David Zaslav and Discovery Networks International president JB Perrette tapped Kaplan for the new role last year. She served as the international content leader "responsible for strategy, coordination and execution of all the division's content and brand strategies across the entire portfolio and on all platforms worldwide," reporting to Perrette.
Discovery described the moves as a "restructuring of its London-based creative teams in order to bolster the U.K. market as a significant source of content creation for the company's global networks."
To further emphasize local production and content, the company is doing away with the centralized structure, with Kaplan's position not being refilled. She will stay on board through the end of the year.
Susanna Dinnage has been promoted to the new role of president and managing director, Discovery Networks U.K./Ireland, reporting to Perrette. She had served as general manager of Discovery Networks U.K./Ireland and will now add responsibilities of working with executives in the U.S. and around the world on creating global franchises.
Kaplan's direct reports will now be reporting to Dinnage. The one exception is Bob Scanlon, executive vp and general manager of Velocity and automotive content, who will report to a U.S.-based executive who will be determined later.
Before moving to London, Kaplan served as group president for TLC, Animal Planet and Velocity. She originally joined Discovery to launch Discovery Kids Channel and later put Animal Planet on the map.
