Captain Marvel and Inside Out co-writer Meg LeFauve's resume is getting giant-sized.
LeFauve has become a director on Disney Animation's Gigantic, joining Nathan Greno on the project, scheduled to be released in November 2018.
Gigantic is an updated take on the Jack and the Beanstalk fairy tale, in which Jack befriends a female giant. Like many Disney animated titles, the project was being developed on the down-low but was officially announced at D23 in August 2015.
"We hope this will be the definitive version of Jack and the Beanstalk...with comedy and deep emotion," said Greno, who previously co-directed Tangled, at the time. He also announced that Frozen songwriters Robert Lopez and Kirsten Anderson-Lopez will write the songs for the film.
LeFauve, who was already well regarded at the Burbank-based studio for her Oscar-nominated writing work on Pixar's Inside Out and The Good Dinosaur, was working on the script, but her input and contribution expanded into a much larger creative role.
Sources say the move is akin to what transpired on Disney's 2013 hit Frozen, on which Jennifer Lee was promoted from screenwriter to director alongside Chris Buck.
Disney Animation has a history of pairing up directors during the course of the making of an animated movie. In recent years, Chris Williams joined Don Hall on Big Hero 6, and Rich Moore partnered with Byron Howard on Zootopia.
LeFauve is repped by Verve.
