“Homeland” is a show that thrives on secrecy, but it looks like there’s a mole inside the Showtime series.
Sunday’s third season finale leaked onto file-sharing sites that illegally host content this weekend, setting off spoiler-heavy discussions on website’s such as Reddit a day before the episode is scheduled to air.
Secrecy is key to a show like “Homeland,” which relies on surprise for its entertainment value. The penultimate episode ended on a cliffhanger, with Nicholas Brody (Damian Lewis) seemingly trapped in Tehran.
This is the second time that the hit show about espionage and global terrorism has been plagued with leaks. A copy of the season three premiere that still had uncompleted green screen work hit the internet a month before it aired and was pirated 100,000 times in its first few hours, according to Torrentfreak.com.
Last year, “Homeland” ranked as one of the top ten most pirated show on the internet, with more than 2.4 million illegal downloads.
A spokeswoman for Showtime did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
