Gigi Hadid has apologized for impersonating Melania Trump at the American Music Awards on Sunday.
“I apologize to anyone that I offended and have only the best wishes for our country,” the model wrote in a handwritten note she shared on Twitter Tuesday.
“I was honored to host the AMA’s last night and to work with some of the most respected writers in the business,” she wrote in a handwritten note that she shared to Twitter. “I removed or changed anything in the script that I felt took the joke too far, and whether or not you choose to see it, what remained was done in good humor and with no bad intent.”
Adding that she herself has been poked fun at in a comedy skit, she believes that “Melania understands show business and the way shows are written and run.”
The model’s name started trending on Twitter soon after her AMA monologue, which included a Melania impression.
“I gotta do the face right,” Hadid said before pouting her lips and putting on an exaggerated accent. “I love my husband, President Barack Obama and our children, Sasha and Malia.”
Many blasted Hadid, asking for her to apologize.

I never want to hear @GiGiHadid stand up for people being bullied. YOU ARE A BULLY!!! Disrespectful, and should be ashamed of yourself!
