Hand out the points to Chris Hardwick.
Comedy Central has renewed late-night pop culture game show @midnight for a fourth season, with the 40-week pickup keeping the Hardwick-hosted series on the air through 2017.
The renewal comes on the heels of the show's second straight Emmy win for outstanding creative achievement in interactive media/social TV experience.
"We are really pleased with how Chris and team have opened the aperture of @midnight to cover more of the socially and politically relevant topics of the day, and I defy anyone to find a show with a higher joke-per-minute ratio," Comedy Central president Kent Alterman said in a release announcing the news Friday.
"I love making @midnight and we will continue to innovate inappropriate jokes about social media and pop culture in the late-night landscape," Hardwick said. "I'm proud to get to work with this amazing team for another year, and hopefully beyond!"
@Midnight recently moved into the 11:30 p.m. slot, helping fill the void created by the cancellation of Larry Wilmore's The Nightly Show until Comedy Central finds another talker to pair with The Daily Show With Trevor Noah.
In making the renewal, Comedy Central noted that @midnight reaches the youngest (39 years) and most-male audience (64 percent) of any daily late-night show. It ranks third among men 18-24 and fifth among men 18-34 in all of late-night.
Hardwick exec produces the series alongside Thomas Lennon and Robert Ben Garant, Funny or Die's Mike Farah and Joe Farrell, Alex Blagg, Jason Nadler and Jon Zimelis of Serious Business. Jack Martin serves as showrunner. Brillstein's Alex Murray also exec produces alongside Comedy Central's Gary Mann and Tara Schuster.
The pickup comes as Hardwick remains a staple at AMC, where he has become the go-to host for all things The Walking Dead, anchoring post-show staple Talking Dead after both the flagship and its Fear the Walking Dead spinoff. He signed an overall deal with AMC in July. The founder and CEO of Nerdist Industries next hosts NBC's forthcoming game show The Wall.
