Sen. Bernie Sanders of Vermont stopped by The Late Show With Stephen Colbert to discuss America’s future now that Donald Trump is going to be president. Bernie had some positive things to say about Trump, but when Stephen asked him for a worst-case scenario, Bernie’s predictions were grim.
The senator went on to explain how a Republican-controlled Senate, House of Representatives, White House, and possibly Supreme Court could change the rules to make it easier for Republicans to continue winning elections. For example, Bernie said, “They will move forward more vigorously in voter suppression. Making it harder for poor people, for old people, for people of color to actually vote.” He also said that the GOP could do away with campaign finance laws, making it even easier for extremely wealthy people and corporations to influence elections.
It wasn’t all bad news, though: Bernie also let people know what they can do now, saying, “What you do is get involved heavily into the political process. When millions of people stand up and fight back, we will not be denied.”
The Late Show With Stephen Colbert airs weeknights at 11:35 p.m. on CBS.
