Netflix Sets Premiere Dates for 'Orange Is the New Black' Season 4, 'Kimmy Schmidt' Season 2, Baz Luhrmann Drama & More

Netflix has revealed the premiere dates for 10 shows, including the fourth season of Orange Is the New Black and the second seasons of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt and Grace and Frankie.

As for new shows, Ashton Kutcher’s The Ranch, Winona Ryder’s supernatural series and Will Arnett’s comedy are all on the slate, plus Baz Luhrmann’s hotly anticipated music drama The Get Down, which will premiere this summer with the first half of its first season.

Premiere dates for a group of children’s shows were also announced on Sunday at the Television Critics Association press tour in Pasadena, Calif.

RETURNING SHOWS

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 2 — Friday, April 15, 2016

The Emmy-nominated comedy starring The Office alum Ellie Kemper returns to Netflix for its second season, as the streaming service picked Kimmy up for two rounds when it bought the sitcom from NBC (the network that passed on the show). Kemper stars alongside Jane Krakowski and Tituss Burgess in the show created by Tina Fey and Robert Carlock.

Grace and Frankie Season 2 — Friday, May 6, 2016

Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin star as Grace and Frankie, two women whose lives are suddenly turned upside down when their husbands, played by Martin Sheen and Sam Waterston, reveal they are gay and leave them for each other. From executive producers Marta Kauffman (Friends) and Howard J. Morris (Home Improvement), the series has also already been picked up for a third season.

Orange Is the New Black Season 4 — Friday, June 17, 2016

From Jenji Kohan, the Litchfield ladies are back for a fourth season. Orange Is the New Black stars Taylor Schilling, Uzo Aduba, Laura Prepon, Kate Mulgrew, Natasha Lyonne, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Michael Harney, Danielle Brooks, Taryn Manning, Selenis Leyva, Yael Stone, Nick Sandow, Samira Wiley, Lea DeLaria, Jackie Cruz, Elizabeth Rodriguez and Adrienne Moore. Starring Will Arnett, Flaked is set in the insular world of Venice, Calif., and centers on a self-appointed guru who falls for the object of his best friend’s fascination. Arnett plays Chip, a man doing his honest best to stay one step ahead of his own lies. David Sullivan, Ruth Kearney and George Basil co-star. Arnett co-created and exec produces the 8-episode series with Mark Chappell. Electus’ Ben Silverman, Peter Principato and Arrested Development’s Mitch Hurwitz also exec produce.

The Ranch — Friday, April 1, 2016

Set in present day on a Colorado ranch, the comedy stars Ashton Kutcher, Danny Masterson, Sam Elliott and Debra Winger. The Ranch follows Colt’s (Kutcher) return home after a brief and failed semi- pro football career to run the family ranching business with his older brother Jameson “Rooster” (Masterson) and father Beau (Elliott), whom he hasn’t seen in 15 years. Two and Half Men and My Wife and Kids alums Don Reo and Jim Patterson exec producer with Kutcher. Masterson is a co-exec producer.

Marseille — Friday, May 5, 2016

A tale of power, corruption and redemption, Marseille — Netflix’s first French language original series — stars Gérard Depardieu as Robert Taro, the city’s mayor for the last twenty years. As the municipal elections approach, Taro prepares his last coup: push through the vote for the construction of a casino in the historic center of the Marina. His successor, Lucas Barrès (Benoît Magimel), is already designated, but the his all-consuming ambition and the secret interests of the city’s leaders impede the mayor’s plans, so the race for mayor becomes a power struggle where no holds are barred. Along with Depardieu and Magimel, Géraldine Pailhas, Nadia Farès, Stéphane Caillard, Jean-René Privat, Guillaume Arnault, Hedi Bouchenafa, Carolina Jurczak, and Nassim Si Ahmed round out the cast. Stranger Things — Friday, July 15, 2016

Winona Ryder stars in the 8-episode series, which follows friends, family and local police, after a young boy vanishes into thin air. As the community looks for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top secret experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl. Ryder stars with David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Noah Schnapp, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton and Matthew Modine. Matt Duffer and Ross Duffer are writing, directing and showrunning the series, and will serve as exec producers with Shawn Levy and Dan Cohen.

The Get Down — Friday, August 12, 2016 (Part 1, Six Episodes)

Baz Luhrmann’s music-driven drama from Sony Pictures Television will focus on 1970’s broken down New York City where a rag-tag crew of South Bronx teenagers are nothings and nobodies with no one to shelter them — except each other, and their verbal games, improvised dance steps, some magic markers and spray cans. Told through the lives and music of the South Bronx kids, The Get Down is a mythic saga of how New York at the brink of bankruptcy gave birth to hip-hop, punk and disco. Luhrmann exec produces with Catherine Martin, Stephen Adly Guirgis, Nelson George and pioneers of hip-hop, Grandmaster Flash, DJ Kool Herc and Afrika Bambaataa, who will each be portrayed on the series. Shameik Moore, Justice Smith, Herizen Guardiola, Skylan Brooks, Tremaine Brown Jr., Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, Jimmy Smits, Giancarlo Esposito and Jaden Smith star in the series, which will air its first six (of 13) episodes starting on Aug. 12.

The show is a step in Netflix’s growing tween and teen programming.

Kong: King of the Apes — April 15, 2016

The animated kids series is a modernized take on the classic King Kong story. Set in 2050, Kong is still the strongest creature ever born with many human traits that make him the ultimate iconic hero. The series hails from Avi Arad.

Word Party — Friday, June 3, 2016

A vocabulary building show for preschoolers from The Jim Henson Company, Word Party follows four adorable baby animals as they sing, dance and play. The show invites our youngest viewers to help teach the baby animals new words, learn these new words themselves, and even celebrate these achievements with a “Word Party!” Word Party is produced using the groundbreaking Henson Digital Puppetry Studio, a proprietary technology from Jim Henson’s Creature Shop that allows puppeteers to perform digitally animated characters in real time – enabling the animation to be more lifelike and spontaneous.
