‘Morning Joe’ on Sean Spicer’s Downfall: ‘Loyalty Oath Appeared to Go in One Direction’ (Video)

MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” remembered former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer on Monday, with co-host Mika Brzezinski saying, “He was put in a bad position since day one.”

Former Press Secretary Josh Earnest said Spicer — who resigned his position on Friday after the appointment of Anthony Scaramucci as Communications Director — was put in a “terrible” position from the very first day because he was asked to make “false claims” that were “easily” disproved.

Earnest said the recent off-camera briefings make it look like the communications team was afraid to defend the president.

“It seemed like when Sean Spicer walked out there, he had taken a loyalty oath, beyond loyalty to country,” Brzezinski said, implying that he was simply loyal to Donald Trump.

“The loyalty oath appeared to go in one direction,” Earnest said.

Spicer suddenly resigned on Friday morning after the hiring of Scaramucci, a New York financier and former Fox Business host. Spicer will stay on thorough August to help with the transition and has repeatedly said he simply wanted to give the communication team a fresh start.

In his brief stint at the White House, Spicer came under repeated fire for garbled answers to press questions that had to be walked back or corrected. But his televised press briefings, which became must-see TV early in the first months of the Trump administration, abruptly stopped on June 20.
