MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” co-hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski are engaged to be married. Before Scarborough got down on one knee, President Trump offered to host and officiate their wedding, according to Vanity Fair.
Scarborough and Brzezinski had lunch with Donald Trump back in January when he told them that if they planned on getting married, they should consider doing so at Mar-a-Lago or the White House, the magazine reported.
Trump’s son-in-law and senior White House advisor Jared Kushner even offered to officiate the event, but the president didn’t like the idea, according to VF.
Scarborough told the publication that Trump fired back at Kushner, “Why would you marry them? They could have the President of the United States marry them.”
The morning media power couple has already ruled out the idea of Trump hosting or officiating the festivities.
“The White House that I grew up in was an amazing place. If it weren’t Trump, it might be something to think about,” Brzezinski told VF. “The mental picture is just fascinating, but the reality is just . . . no. No, no, no, no, no.”
MSNBC declined TheWrap’s request for comment on Trump’s offer. However, an MSNBC spokesperson confirmed to TheWrap earlier on Thursday that the “Morning Joe” co-hosts were engaged, ending one of the media industry’s worst-kept secrets.
The news of Scarborough and Brzezinski’s engagement broke shortly before Thursday’s episode of “Morning Joe” was about go to live. They have famously attempted to keep their personal relationship a secret from viewers.
It would be interesting to see if the president’s offer still stands now that the engagement is official. The “Morning Joe” co-hosts were criticized for being too close to Trump during the campaign, but have since turned on him. They recently compared him to someone with dementia and Trump has repeatedly praised head-to-head cable news rival “Fox & Friends” since taking office.
