Michael Sragow Named O.C. Register Film Critic

Michael Sragow, a longtime film critic at the Baltimore Sun, has been hired by the Orange County Register, the paper's editor told TheWrap.

Sragow, whose byline has appeared in the New Yorker, the Atlantic and the New York Times, starts his new job "in the next month or so," editor Ken Brusic said.

"We don't currently have a film critic," Brusic said in an email to TheWrap. "Haven't had one for several years. This is a new position."

Sragow did not respond to emails from TheWrap for comment.

A Boston-based investment firm bought the then-bankrupt Register last summer for an undisclosed price.

The paper has been on a hiring spree over the last few months -- adding more than two-dozen names to its newsroom. The Register has also hired food, TV and car critics, along with a society columnist and investigative reporters.
