Melissa McCarthy Announces Return to 'Gilmore Girls' Reboot on 'Ellen'

Back in January, Netflix announced it would be reviving the classic television series Gilmore Girls. One of the big questions leading up to the release is whether Melissa McCarthy would be involved in the reboot. Questions about that were finally answered by McCarthy on Ellen. “They’re making four new movies of the Gilmore Girls, which is a show that was near and dear to my heart for four years. And we could not get those schedules to work,” she explained to Ellen DeGeneres. “And there was a whole thing, and then I was going to be out of the country and blah blah blah. And literally about an hour and a half ago, we figured out that I’m going to go back and do it. And I am so excited.”

The inclusion of McCarthy’s character, Sookie, is a big boost for the upcoming Netflix revival of the series, and McCarthy is also excited to be revisiting Gilmore Girls, one of her first major shows on television. “I’m very happy to go back to Stars Hollow,” McCarthy said. “I’m just really excited about that. It just happened, and I got asked a lot about it, and as of not even two hours ago, it’s happening.”
