Maya Rudolph Partied With Her ‘SNL’ Castmates and Almost Died
Maya Rudolph suffered a potentially fatal spider bite while celebrating Ana Gasteyer’s 50th birthday recently in Palm Springs, Calif.. Rudolph explained on Live With Kelly and Ryan that she talks to her former Saturday Night Live castmates Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, and Ana Gasteyer almost daily.
They all got together to mark Gasteyer’s big day, but the fun stopped when Rudolph was bitten by a black widow spider and needed medical attention.
The paramedics came and assessed that Rudolph wasn’t going into anaphylactic shock and would be OK. They urged Rudolph to go to the hospital to get anti-venom, but Poehler wasn’t having it. Rudolph described Poehler’s reaction: “She goes, ‘You’re not going to the hospital.’ She was like, tough guy, was like, ‘We are taking care of you.'”
