Matt Lauer Warns Nugget Boy to Watch Out for Ellen DeGeneres

A little over a month ago, 16-year-old Carter Wilkerson of Reno, Nev., asked the Twitterverse for help getting a year’s worth of chicken nuggets from Wendy’s. All he needed was 18 million retweets of his original tweet to Wendy’s. Reaching 18 million still seems unlikely, but Wilkerson’s campaign for free fried chunks of chicken picked up enough steam to close in on Ellen DeGeneres’s retweet record.

DeGeneres held the record for the most retweets with her Oscars selfie from the 2014 Academy Awards. DeGeneres even invited Wilkerson to be on her show, where she bribed him with underwear and a television to help her keep the record. She even jokingly threatened to take the stuff back if he were to surpass her record. Well, on Tuesday that’s exactly what happened.

As of the time of this writing, Wilkerson was sitting at more than 3.5 million retweets, while DeGeneres had a lowly 3.4 million. Wilkerson tweeted at DeGeneres, asking if he could keep the stuff she had given him. She responded by saying she was going to send Bradley Cooper, who appeared in the Oscars selfie, to get it from him.

On Wednesday, Wilkerson joined Today, where Matt Lauer warned him of DeGeneres’s revenge.

“You have dethroned Ellen. May I be the first to personally warn you what can happen if you cross Ellen DeGeneres,” Lauer said.

Lauer knows a thing or two about what DeGeneres is capable of. He’s been in a prank war with her for years.

Hopefully, DeGeneres will let Wilkerson keep the undies and the TV. He deserves to keep both, as he has turned this whole situation into a charitable venture. Wilkerson has begun selling “Nuggets for Carter” T-shirts and giving the proceeds to charity.
