‘MasterChef’ Sneak Peek: Gordon Ramsay Shows You How to Poach and Shell a Lobster in 3 Minutes

Got 160 seconds? Then you’ve got time to learn a world-class prepping technique from Gordon Ramsay. On next week’s MasterChef, the 16 remaining cheftestants must poach and shell a live lobster, so Chef Ramsay gives everyone a quick and dirty demonstration of how it’s done.

Like a lot of tasks on MasterChef, this one is deceptively simple — it wouldn’t be a challenge if it were. Years of experience have made all of Ramsay’s cuts, twists, and cracks quick and precise. In the time it takes to make a PB&J — thanks to the magic of TV editing — he poaches a lobster and removes the meat. He takes care to include all the tiny legs, which he gets at with a rolling pin.

Unlike last season, there do not appear to be any vegetarians among the cooks, so there are no squeals of horror when Ramsay jams his knife through the creature’s head. Whether they will handle the rest of the trials with as much composure — later in the episode, they’ll have to watch and recreate a lobster tortellini dish — remains to be seen.

MasterChef airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
