‘Masterchef Junior’ Gets off to a Sweet Start

On the season premiere of Masterchef Junior, 40 young chefs vied to earn the apron that would lead them on to compete for the $100,000 prize. And in Round 1’s tartlet bake-off, there was a whole lot of cuteness going on. Nine-year-old Barbara worked on a tartlet with caramelized bananas when judge Gordon Ramsey told her, “Bouge ton cul,” which, he explained, is French for “Move your butt.”

Ramsey then talked with Elisabeth, who held a fundraiser so that she could make the Masterchef Junior auditions. Ramsey could relate, and he told her that he had to go to a local charity where he grew up to pay for his first chef’s whites and his first wallet of knives.

After the tartlet tasting, Gordon thought fellow judge Christina Tosi might have some young competition with Cydney, saying she should be worried because her chocolate coconut tartlet was absolutely delicious. Sadly there were only two aprons to give to these sweet girls, and Elisabeth and Cydney took the prize.

‘MasterChef Junior’ airs Thursdays at 8 p.m. on Fox.
